
The Japan Hotel Association is composed of leading hotels representing every part of Japan.
All Association member hotels have been approved by the Minister of Transportation under the Law for the Improvement of International Tourist Hotel Facilities.
Promoting the growth of the hotel industry, and contributing to the development of tourism in Japan.

| 1920 | In cooperation with JTB, informed foreign ships arriving to ports in Japan about availability and condition of hotel rooms |
| 1929 | Implemented an advertisement campaign targeting the U.S. under the Joint Advertisement Committee consisting of Ministry of Railways and Japan Hotel Association |
| 1941 | Approved as a Corporation by Ministry of Railways |
| 1948 | Defined membership criteria |
| 1949 | “Laws for Improvement of International Tourist Hotel Facilities” was established |
| 1950 | The membership magazine “Hotel View” made its first appearance |
| 1962 | “Laws for Improvement of International Tourist Hotel Facilities” was revised. Member hotels / Ryokans were requested to report accommodation fees and other fees |
| 1964 | The 1st Hotel Boom Member hotels contracted to provide meals for the Tokyo Olympics |
| 1969 | The 2nd Hotel Boom Hotels started to increase in size |
| 1971 | The 3rd Hotel Boom Hotels started to increase in height |
| 1972 | Member hotels contracted to provide meals for the Sapporo Olympics |
| 1989 | Japan Hotel Employees Pension Fund was established |
| 1992 | “Laws for Improvement of International Tourist Hotel Facilities” was revised |
| 2003 | Japan Hotel Employees Pension Fund was dissolved Japan Hotel Defined Contribution Pension Plan (Integrated fixed Pension Fund) was established |
