For a Bright Future over the Next 100 Years

In 1909, 28 leading Japanese hotels came together to establish the Japan Hotel Association.

Since then, we have spent over 100 years pouring our energy into in a diverse range of activities such as improving the quality of hotels, promoting the hotel industry, and nurturing human resources.

Our membership is currently composed of 244 hotels nationwide. All of them have passed the membership criteria and are highly regarded as Japan’s top hotels.

Message from the President of the Japan Hotel Association concerning the honor conferred on Tokyo of hosting the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

As a Japanese national, I am so pleased and excited about the news that this global event will be held in Japan. In this regard, on behalf of the Japanese hotel industry, I would like to extend my sincere welcome to people who will be visiting Japan from all over the world.

We understand that hotels are a key factor in determining the impression that people have of a nation, and as such, hotels in Japan should all prepare to think of themselves as private diplomats when it comes to the welcoming of, and interactions with, their guests.

In offering a "Safe and Secure" environment in Japan, our wish is that guests who come here from around the world are able to enjoy the quality of Japanese hotels that combine authentic Japanese hospitality with fine service. It is my hope that when those guests return home, they will convey to their families, friends and colleagues what they experienced in Japan, which will energize inbound tourism here.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games will be an unmatched opportunity to present Japan's charms and attractions to a global audience. At the same time, we expect that the event will also generate a positive economic ripple effect in a wide range of sectors, promoting employment, especially in the tourism industry.

I believe that Japan will move forward dynamically into a bright future with the Olympic and Paralympic Games, not only from 2020 but also in the process of preparation.

Sincerely,
Tetsuya Kobayashi
